London’s Legal Week reported September 26 that already-merged Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham has entered Kirkpatrick in merger bid with 400-lawyer Seattle firm merger talks with Seattle’s Preston Gates & Ellis in a tie-up that would create a 1,400-lawyer firm with 21 offices. The two firms, which confirmed the talks in an official statement issued the previous day, entered discussions in July and are hopeful of closing the deal this fall.

The Lists and reports show that in 2005, 1,000-lawyer Kirkpatrick saw its turnover rise by 26% to $469m while profits per equity partner (PPEP) stood at $730,000. Preston Gates, with 428 attorneys in the last NLJ250 (2005) report, had PPEP in 2005 of $350,000,according to the most recent Am Law 200 report, with revenue of $182m.
